The Slot.it M-series crown is aimed at racers chasing the last bit of drivetrain efficiency. Instead of letting the motor shaft rub directly against the crown hub, the modular system uses a separate ferrule and free-running steel washers. The washers act like miniature thrust bearings, allowing the parts to move independently on a film of oil and reducing friction and wear.

Why the modular system matters

• Lower drivetrain drag: the calibrated washers reduce rubbing between the motor shaft, crown and locking hardware.
• Reduced wear: less direct friction means the gear can stay smooth for longer.
• Flexible pinion choice: use SIGMF55 with 5.5 mm pinions or SIGMF60 with 6.0 mm pinions.
• 26-tooth ratio: a strong all-around choice for race cars that need a balance of acceleration, braking and straightaway speed.

Important: This modular crown requires a separate Slot.it lock-ring ferrule—SIGMF55 for 5.5 mm pinions or SIGMF60 for 6.0 mm pinions.

Jim's setup note: The advantage here is not that the gear ratio itself is different from a conventional 26T crown; it is that the drivetrain can run freer. Set the mesh with just enough clearance to avoid binding, keep the washers lightly oiled, and make sure the locking screw reaches the axle through the opening in the crown hub.
