Test motors, check current draw, diagnose drivetrain problems, and tune your slot cars at the workbench.

The Scaleauto SC-5068 Car & Motor Test Bench is a useful diagnostic and tuning tool for slot car racers who want more information than simply putting a car on the track and seeing how it feels.

Use it to test individual motors, run complete cars, compare current consumption, break in motors, and help identify drivetrain friction or other mechanical problems.

The tester can be powered by a standard 9V battery or an external power supply using the supplied connection harness.

Motor Testing & Break-In

The SC-5068 provides dedicated positions for testing common short- and long-can slot car motors, including popular F-type configurations.

Motors can be run independently of the car for initial testing, comparison, troubleshooting, or controlled break-in.

Test Complete Slot Cars

The tester can also run a complete slot car while it remains stationary on your workbench. This lets you observe the motor, gears, axle, wheels, and complete drivetrain without needing to put the car on a track.

It's particularly useful after assembling or servicing a car because unusual noise, vibration, binding, or excessive current consumption can often be identified before the car ever reaches the starting line.

Measure Current Draw

Current consumption provides useful information about both motors and complete drivetrains.

Comparing similar motors can help identify meaningful differences in electrical behavior, while unexpectedly high current draw in a complete car may indicate binding, poor gear mesh, axle friction, or another mechanical problem.

For race organizations, current measurement can also be useful as a quick screening tool for identifying cars or motors that warrant closer technical inspection.

Tuning & Diagnostics

The SC-5068 can help with:

• Motor testing and comparison
• Motor break-in
• Checking gear mesh
• Finding drivetrain binding
• Comparing current consumption
• Checking a car after repairs or setup changes
• Pre-race inspection and preparation

Setup Tip for Narrow Cars

Some cars with a narrow rear track may have tires that contact the tester base before the chassis is properly supported.

A small rubber pad, Blu Tack, or similar non-damaging spacer placed beneath the chassis can raise the car slightly so the rear wheels rotate freely during testing.

Power Options

The tester can operate from a standard 9V battery for convenient portable use or from a suitable external power supply using the included connection harness.

9V battery and external power supply are not included.

Jim's Racer Perspective

I've been racing, building, tuning, and restoring slot cars since the 1960s. One of the most useful lessons I've learned is that diagnosing a car is much easier when you can separate what you feel on the track from what is actually happening mechanically and electrically.

The SC-5068 gives you another way to find friction, compare motors, check repairs, and understand what a car's drivetrain is doing before you put it on the track.

Measure it. Diagnose it. Tune it. Then race it.
