It is useful for permanent and temporary layouts using Carrera DIGITAL 132, DIGITAL 124, or Evolution track and can also be incorporated into appropriate OmniSlotBox installations.

Why Use Power Taps?

Every track joint adds a small amount of electrical resistance. As a Carrera layout becomes larger, those connections can cause increasing voltage loss between the power source and sections farther around the track.

A power tap provides an additional electrical path from the power source to another point on the track. It does not increase the power-supply voltage; instead, it reduces losses and helps distribute available power more evenly around the layout.

This can improve consistency on larger tracks, particularly when several cars are running simultaneously.

Flat Wire for Easy Installation

The supplied flat wire has a very low profile, making it convenient for routing across or around table-mounted layouts where conventional round wire may be more difficult to conceal.

For permanent installations, conventional heavier-gauge wiring routed beneath the table may also be appropriate.

Installation

Power taps must maintain the correct electrical relationship between the rails. Incorrect connections can create a short circuit , so verify the rail connections before applying power.

The number and location of additional feeds required depends on track length, number and condition of track joints, electrical load, and layout design. Larger layouts may benefit from multiple power taps.

OmniSlotBox Compatibility

The Carrera 20585 can also be useful with appropriate OmniSlotBox-equipped Carrera tracks , but the correct connection method depends on the OmniSlotBox system being used.

With an OmniSlotBox Emulator , power taps must preserve the Carrera rail configuration used by the Emulator. With true analog/digital switching systems such as the OmniSlotBox Prime, XMR, or OmniSlotBox 4 , power feeds must remain electrically separated as required by the individual lane wiring.

Do not connect rails from separate analog lanes together with a common power tap.
