Race Analog Cars on Your Carrera Digital Track—Without Chipping the Cars
The OmniSlotBox Emulator gives Carrera Digital 132/124 owners an easy way to enjoy both digital and analog slot cars on the same track.
Unlike our Prime and XMR systems, which convert the track to true conventional analog operation, the Emulator uses trackside lane decoders to control analog cars using Carrera-compatible digital controllers. The decoder is in the Emulator rather than in the car—so your analog cars don't need to be chipped.
Flip one switch to change between Carrera Digital and Emulator analog operation.
Best of all, installation is plug-and-play . No soldering or permanent track modification is normally required.
Why Choose the Emulator?
- Run Analog Cars Without Chipping Them– The lane decoders are housed in the Emulator rather than installed in individual cars
- Keep Using Carrera-Compatible Controllers– No separate analog controllers or driver stations are required
- Instant Digital/Analog Switching– Change racing formats with one robust switch
- Plug-and-Play Installation– Simply replace your existing Carrera Control Unit track section with the supplied modified CU
- Carrera Power Supply Compatible– Continue using the familiar Carrera power system
- LED Status Indicators– Bicolor LEDs identify operating mode and controller coding status
- External Fuse Protection– Easily replaceable fuses help protect the lane decoders from overloads and shorts
- Analog Lap Counting– The modified CU can detect compatible analog cars for lap counting
- Full Carrera Digital Operation– Switch back to Digital mode and use normal Carrera Digital functions
- Continuity Tester Included– Makes it easy to verify correct track isolation before installation
- 2-Year Warranty– Covers functional failure of the Emulator system
How the Emulator Works
Digital Mode
Switch to Digital and the system operates as a Carrera Digital track through the supplied modified Carrera Control Unit. Digital cars continue to use their onboard decoders and normal Carrera-compatible controllers.
Emulator Analog Mode
Switch to Analog and the Emulator's trackside decoders independently control power to each lane .
Your controller commands are decoded by the Emulator rather than by a decoder installed inside the car. This allows an unchipped analog car to respond to a Carrera-compatible controller.
It's an elegant solution for racers who want access to a much larger selection of analog cars without installing decoders in them—and without maintaining a separate set of analog controllers.
Emulator or True Analog OmniSlotBox?
The distinction is important.
The Emulator provides decoder-controlled analog racing . It is particularly attractive when you want simple installation and want to continue using Carrera-compatible controllers and power supplies.
For racers who want true conventional analog operation , substantially higher current capability, adjustable analog power, or their choice of conventional analog controllers, the OmniSlotBox Prime or XMR is the better choice.
High-current analog motors and severe shorts can exceed the capabilities of the Emulator's lane decoders. Replaceable external fuses are provided to help protect them.
Important Compatibility Notes
- Carrera Digital accessories such as the Start Light and Position Tower do not operate in Emulator Analog mode
-
Carrera Digital cars have a switch that allows them to run on a true analog track, but power is still routed through the car’s decoder circuitry.
Because of this, Carrera Digital cars switched to analog mode do not run reliably with the OmniSlotBox Emulator. With both the car’s decoder and the Emulator’s decoder in the circuit, the two systems can interfere with each other.
If you must run a Carrera Digital car in analog mode with an Emulator, bypass or remove the decoder chip in the car.
- High-current competition motors may exceed the capabilities of the Emulator's lane decoders. Choose Prime or XMR when true high-current analog operation is required
⏱ Analog Lap Counting
The supplied modified Carrera Control Unit allows lap detection in analog mode using the CU's sender/receiver system.
Many analog cars will register without modification. Depending on the underside of the car:
- Some cars work as-is
- Some require a small piece of the supplied reflective material
- Cars with very low or completely enclosed chassis may require a small opening—approximately 7 mm—to provide reliable detection
This allows compatible race-management software to provide lap timing while you're racing analog cars.
Easy Installation
- Remove your existing Carrera CU track section.Your original CU can be kept trackside as a convenient station for testing and coding digital cars without interrupting racing on the main track.
- Check track isolation with the included continuity tester. This verifies that the rails are correctly isolated at the CU gap.
- Correct any continuity issues if necessary. The owner's manual explains common causes, including crossed power taps and certain lane-change installations.
- Install the supplied modified CU and connect the Emulator. You're ready to select a mode and race.
No permanent wiring or soldering is normally required.
Power Considerations
The standard Carrera power supply is suitable for normal operation, but additional power capacity can be useful for demanding applications.
A power-supply and wiring-harness upgrade is available for layouts running larger numbers of digital cars or more demanding equipment.
The Carrera Controller Extension Set 30348 is also available for installations requiring additional wired controller positions.
