Vintage 1966 MPC Ford J Car Slot Car – Metallic Blue – Tested and Running

This is a very clean vintage Model Products Corporation (MPC) Ford J Car from the golden age of large-scale slot racing. Finished in metallic blue with Ford side stripes, detailed interior and classic period wheels, it is an appealing surviving example of MPC's 1960s slot-car production.

The mechanical condition is particularly noteworthy. Close inspection of the drive gears, guide and pickup braid shows virtually no evidence of track use. The car appears to have seen little more than initial setup or testing. We lubricated the car and gave it a brief test run; it runs very well.

Tires

The rear tires have been upgraded to silicone tires. They are soft, usable and provide excellent traction.

Detail Work

Some additional detail painting has been applied to the driver and portions of the body.  Expertly done it adds considerably to the car's appearance, but should be noted for collectors seeking a completely untouched factory example.

About the Ford J Car

The Ford J Car was an experimental Ford racing prototype developed during the GT40 program and became an important evolutionary step toward Ford's later Mark IV endurance racer. MPC reproduced this distinctive prototype during the height of the 1960s slot-car boom.

Collector Condition

The body remains very attractive for its age, with minor age, handling and detail-paint imperfections visible in the photographs. The outstanding feature of this example is the unusually low apparent wear to the chassis and running gear.
