Track Honey is a track-treatment formula used to prepare and maintain slot car racing surfaces.

Applied correctly, it helps reduce the amount of dust and debris picked up by tires while encouraging the track surface to develop a light, consistent layer of tire material through normal racing.

The goal is a smooth, conditioned racing surface with a distinctive "candle wax" feel — never sticky.

How It Works

On an untreated track, tires can pick up dust and debris that reduce consistency and traction.

Track Honey conditions the racing surface so tires stay cleaner while normal running gradually leaves behind a light layer of tire material.

This is similar to the way a full-size racing circuit develops additional grip as cars repeatedly run over the same surface.

The important goal is consistency, not stickiness. A properly conditioned track should feel smooth and slightly waxy — much like rubbing your fingers across candle wax.

Two Ways to Apply Track Honey

We use and recommend two different application methods. Both can produce an excellent racing surface when the Track Honey is spread thinly and worked into the track properly.

Method 1 – Microfiber Wipe-On Application

This is the more controlled method and is particularly useful when you do not want to work with a separate flammable solvent.

1. Apply a small amount of Track Honey to a clean microfiber cloth.
2. Wipe it directly onto the racing surface.
3. Rub and spread the Track Honey thoroughly over the track.
4. Continue working the surface until the treatment is distributed in a very thin, even film.
5. Check the finished surface with your fingertips.

The finished track should feel like candle wax — smooth and conditioned, but not sticky.

If an area feels tacky, continue rubbing and spreading the Track Honey with the microfiber cloth until the excess has been distributed.

Why Use the Microfiber Method?

• No Need to Clean Treatment from the Track Rails After Spraying
• Easy to Work Extra Treatment Out of Sticky Areas

The tradeoff is time. Wiping and working Track Honey into the track by hand takes longer than treating a large layout with the diluted method, but it provides considerably more control over the finished surface.

Method 2 – Traditional Diluted Application

For larger tracks, Track Honey can also be diluted using the traditional method.

Mix the complete bottle of concentrate with approximately 24 fl oz of VM&P naphtha.

1. Add the entire contents to approximately 24 fl oz of VM&P naphtha.
2. Mix thoroughly in a solvent-compatible container.
3. Apply a very light, even coating to the racing surface using a solvent-compatible applicator.
4. Allow the solvent to evaporate completely.
5. Remove any treatment deposited on the electrical rails using a cloth lightly moistened with naphtha.

Again, the finished surface should have a light candle-wax feel rather than a sticky surface.

If the track feels sticky, too much treatment remains in one area. Spread it farther or wipe the surface with a clean microfiber cloth until the treatment forms a very thin, even layer.

Which Method Should I Use?

For maximum control: use the microfiber wipe-on method.

For faster treatment of a large track: the traditional diluted method may be more practical.

Whichever method you choose, the key is the same:

Use very little Track Honey, spread it thoroughly, and stop when the track has that smooth "candle wax" feel. More is not better.

Important Safety Information for the Diluted Method

VM&P naphtha and similar petroleum solvents are highly flammable.

• Use only with adequate ventilation.
• Keep away from flames, sparks, heaters and other ignition sources.
• Do not smoke while mixing or applying.
• Allow solvent vapors to dissipate completely before operating electrical track equipment.
• Follow all warnings and instructions supplied with the solvent being used.

Jim's Racer Perspective

Track Honey is the treatment I use on our own club and event tracks when we want a clean, predictable racing surface that works with several different tire compounds.

The microfiber method takes more time, but I like the additional control. You can work the treatment directly into the track, avoid overspray and keep it off the electrical rails.

Whichever method we use, I judge the application partly by feel. I want the surface to feel like candle wax. If it feels sticky, there is too much Track Honey in that spot and it needs to be spread farther.

Once properly conditioned, normal racing continues to develop the surface rather than requiring us to constantly strip the track back to bare plastic.
