Performance Notes In stock configuration, this model uses an 18V motor that performs best with a compatible high-output power supply. Running at lower voltages (such as with a standard 1:32 Carrera supply) will result in reduced speed. At the CARS Club, we install the RMS 14.5V motor, which delivers excellent performance on 1:32 systems—plus improved efficiency, allowing more 1:24 cars to run on a single power source. We also upgrade with Paul Gage tires for better grip and durability. These resist degradation and can be trued for smooth rotation—an advantage over silicone tires, which can’t be sanded.

For Carrera 1/24 cars, my three favorite upgrades are an RMS-124-CM motor, better rear tires, and less magnetic downforce.
The RMS motor is especially useful because it produces excellent speed at the lower voltage normally used for Carrera 1/32 cars. That means you can run your 1/24 cars at the same voltage setting as your 1/32 cars instead of changing from roughly 14.5 volts to 18 volts. It also draws less current than the stock Carrera 1/24 motor, allowing more 1/24 cars to run from the available power supply capacity—an important advantage in multi-car Digital 124 racing.
I also recommend replacing the stock rear tires. In my experience, Carrera tires vary considerably from car to car and can harden and lose performance as they age. Quality synthetic replacement tires provide more consistent grip, much better durability, and more predictable performance. That becomes especially important as magnetic downforce is reduced, because the tires are now doing more of the work.
Finally, I normally remove the rear magnet first. With only the more forward magnet remaining, the car can move and drift more progressively through a turn instead of remaining heavily planted at the rear until grip suddenly disappears. I find the cars more forgiving and more enjoyable to drive this way. Racers who prefer true no-magnet handling can remove both magnets, making tire grip, chassis setup and throttle control even more important.
