A great slot car track isn't the one with the most track pieces. It's the one you still enjoy racing years later.
Let us design a slot car layout specifically for your space, cars, racing system, drivers and budget .
Jim Cunningham has been racing slot cars and designing layouts since 1968, from compact HO tracks and home raceways to club tracks, portable event raceways and large Carrera Digital installations.
Rather than simply filling every available inch with track, we design for good racing, visibility, marshal access, driver positions, flow and long-term enjoyment.
Why Have Your Track Professionally Designed?
It's surprisingly easy to build a complicated slot car track. Designing a good one is harder.
A successful layout needs to consider much more than whether the pieces fit. Driver sightlines, corner combinations, passing opportunities, marshal access, lane equality, power distribution and the physical limitations of the room all affect how enjoyable the finished track will be.
We also try to avoid unnecessary track pieces. Buying only what your finished design actually requires can help offset the cost of having the layout properly planned before construction begins.

Designed Around How You Actually Race
Before designing your layout, we'll want to understand what you expect from the track.
A layout for one person enjoying vintage analog cars should be very different from a six-driver Carrera Digital club track. A scenic model circuit has different priorities from a competitive raceway.
Your design can take into account:
- Available room dimensions
- Doors, windows, columns and other obstructions
- Number of simultaneous drivers
- Driver positions and visibility
- Spectator and marshal space
- Analog, digital or combined analog/digital racing
- 1/32 and/or 1/24 scale cars
- Competitive racing versus casual driving
- Desired speed and technical difficulty
- Scenery, buildings and landscaping
- Pit and work areas
- Existing track sections you want to reuse
- Available budget
Carrera Digital & OmniSlotBox Layouts
We have particular experience designing Carrera Digital 132/124 layouts and tracks equipped with OmniSlotBox analog/digital systems .
For these installations, track design can include consideration of lane-changer placement, Control Unit location, driver stations, power taps and the requirements of both digital and analog racing.
A well-planned OmniSlotBox installation can provide one layout capable of running Carrera Digital cars as well as a huge variety of analog slot cars.
Table & Room Planning
The table should serve the track—not force the track into a bad design.
We can design around an existing table, work within a simple rectangular table you plan to build, or recommend a custom table shape that improves driver visibility and marshal access while using the available room efficiently.
For larger layouts, an irregular or open-center table can sometimes provide a much better racing experience than simply covering the room with a giant rectangle.
What We Need From You
After ordering, send us as much of the following information as possible through the marketplace messaging system:
- A dimensioned sketch of the available room or area
- Locations and dimensions of doors, windows and obstructions
- Existing table dimensions, if applicable
- Track system and scale
- Analog, digital or both
- Number of simultaneous drivers desired
- Typical number of spectators and marshals
- Types of cars you expect to race
- Whether you prefer a fast, flowing or technical circuit
- How important scenery and realism are to you
- Any track pieces you already own and want incorporated
- Photos of the room or proposed installation area when useful
Experience Matters
Jim Cunningham has been involved with slot cars since 1968 as a racer, builder, tuner, collector, club organizer and track designer.
That experience includes everything from small home layouts to club raceways and portable tracks built to entertain hundreds of participants at major corporate and trade-show events.
The objective isn't to impress you with the most complicated drawing possible. It's to design a track that works .
Build the Track You Won't Want to Replace
Track pieces are easy to rearrange. Building tables, wiring power taps, installing scenery and discovering six months later that nobody can reach a troublesome corner is considerably less entertaining.
Plan it first. Build it once. Race it for years.
