Performance Notes
In stock form, Carrera Digital 124 cars are designed around approximately 18V. Running them from the lower voltage normally used for Carrera Digital 132 will reduce speed.
At the SlotCarClubhouse, we often replace the stock motor with an RMS-124-CM 14.5V motor. This gives excellent performance at Digital 132 voltage and reduces current draw, making it easier to run multiple 1/24 cars from the available power supply capacity.
We also recommend upgraded rear tires. Paul Gage urethane tires provide consistent grip, resist age-related hardening, and can be sanded and trued for smoother running.
Jim's Racer Perspective
For Carrera 1/24 cars, my three favorite upgrades are simple:
- RMS-124-CM motor – strong performance at 14.5V with lower current draw
- Better rear tires – more consistent grip and easier tuning
- Less magnetic downforce – more progressive, driver-controlled handling
I normally remove the rear magnet first. With only the forward magnet remaining, the car can move and drift more progressively through a corner instead of staying heavily planted until grip suddenly disappears.
For racers who prefer true no-magnet handling, both magnets can be removed. At that point, tire grip, chassis setup, and throttle control become much more important—and, in my opinion, much more rewarding.
Run it stock, or tune it into a seriously satisfying 1/24 scale racer.
